    OBJECTIVES AND PROFILE

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

To train advanced human capital at the doctoral level, equipped with the competencies to make social contributions through the development of independent research and the dissemination of knowledge generated within the field of communication.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

To train high-level researchers who contribute innovative solutions through an interdisciplinary approach, aiding in the understanding of both established and emerging issues in communication and culture.

To develop highly qualified human talent with the competencies and skills necessary to lead research initiatives using diverse theoretical and methodological techniques.

To train researchers with the skills to perform effectively in the fields of higher education, state administration, and the private sector.

To equip researchers with the necessary conditions to disseminate relevant knowledge resulting from their own research in indexed journals and books.

GRADUATE PROFILE

The Doctor in Communication trained at the Universidad de La Frontera and the Universidad Austral de Chile is a postgraduate professional capable of engaging in (1) independent research within the field of communication, and (2) the dissemination of specialized knowledge to academic audiences. Their training is grounded in a critical perspective of the cultural industry and its mediations, utilizing interdisciplinary approaches, theories, and analyses to develop studies on communication processes.

Their training enables them to (1.1.) Identify new problems in both established and emerging intercultural contexts using various theoretical and methodological techniques; (1.2.) Develop research in the field of communication with theoretical-methodological tools from an interdisciplinary perspective to contribute to the understanding of issues associated with diverse intercultural contexts; (2.1.) Prepare scientific articles for publication in indexed journals within the field, based on theoretical discussion, preliminary analysis of diverse corpora, and original research results, and (2.2.) Produce scientific texts for the presentation of research findings to academic audiences. They possess the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and analyze issues through critical thinking. Graduates of the Doctorate in Communication from the Universidad de La Frontera and the Universidad Austral de Chile may pursue careers in research centers and institutes, as well as public or private higher education institutions.

DURATION AND DEDICATION

The Doctorate in Communication has a duration of 4 years, distributed across 8 academic semesters. Classes are held at both universities: the Valentín Letelier Campus at UFRO and the Isla Teja Campus at UACh. Classes are concentrated on Thursdays and Fridays.
