DOCTORAL APPLICATION WORKFLOW

PROGRAM CHARACTERISTICS
The Doctoral Program in Communication has a duration of 4 years, distributed across 8 academic semesters. Classes are held at both universities: the Valentín Letelier Campus of UFRO and the Isla Teja Campus of UACh.
Classes are concentrated on Thursdays and Fridays. The program directors are: Dr. Carlos del Valle (Universidad de La Frontera) and Dr. Rodrigo Browne (Universidad Austral de Chile). The Doctorate features four Research Lines: 1) Communication and Media, 2) Communication and Power in Inter, Multi, and Transcultural Contexts, 3) Communication and Culture, and 4) Communication, Science, and Technologies.
The Doctorate currently holds seven Double Degree Agreements with: 1) University of Groningen, Netherlands; 2) Sapienza Università di Roma, Italy; 3) Universidad de Sevilla, Spain; 4) Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Colombia; 5) Universidad de Alicante, Spain; 6) Universidad de Vigo, Spain; and 7) Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Spain.
The program publishes the journal Perspectivas de la Comunicación (ISSN 0718-4867), a biannual electronic publication established in 2000. Its purpose is to contribute to the dialogue among researchers in the broad field of communication, primarily disseminating works associated with research projects and fostering the development of critical thinking regarding diverse social, cultural, communicative, discursive, intercultural, political, and economic phenomena observed in Latin America and the world. The journal is indexed/cataloged in: Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI – Clarivate Analytics), SCIELO-Chile, ErihPlus, Latindex (Catálogo), Ibero-American Network of Communication and Culture Journals, Bogotá Network of Scientific Journals in Communication, Dialnet, DOAJ, DRJI, CEDAL, Redib, Google Scholar, and MIAR.
The program hosts the Observatory on Communication, Culture, Criticism, and Society (OBC), an academic space with a social vocation. It is oriented towards observing social and cultural trends and scenarios that link the educational, research, and productive activities of the Doctorate in Communication with various mediated public activities, moving beyond traditional analyses of mediatized content.
Furthermore, the program includes the Laboratory for the Study of Discourses (LaED), a facility designed to host the work of doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty. Its purpose is to perform various analyses of text corpora corresponding to thesis research and/or research projects for publication in specialized journals, particularly those indexed in WoS and Scopus.
